Historic Jewish heritage mural, “Our Strength is Our Heritage, Our Heritage is Our Life” at 232 East Broadway was created in 1973 by local youth teaming up with professional artists and was sponsored by the organization CITYarts. The mural depicts scenes from Jewish history, including the Nazi era, and some of the teens were children of Holocaust survivors.

CITYarts, the nonprofit organization that connects local youth with artists to create inspirational pieces and a sense of community empowerment, is building the 210-foot long mural in Henry M. Jackson Playground on the Lower East Side. The painting will be executed by local artists Yanusz Gilewicz and Leon Reid IV with help of the youth and volunteers in the neighborhood.
