Testimonials

“I am a CITYarts kid...I had the same story as so many young people...who grew up in inner-city communities around the world...the story of struggle, lack of re- sources, lack of everything. But when you have organizations like CITYarts that will step in and provide a way to be able to not only be creative but have a vision for something different...you can visualize and think about something besides ourself to ask: what else out there is in the world for me? And CITYarts did that for me. It gave that to me. And I want to say it was that experience that drove me to make sure that I graduated from high school to make sure I went on to college.”
— Alicka Ampry-Samuel, CITYarts volunteer at age 16 // Former New York City Council Member // Appointed by President Biden as HUD Regional Administrator for New York & New Jersey
“The artist did not just teach us to paint. He taught us to live together, to work together, & help one another.”
— Jennifer, age 14
“I had worked with Tsipi 29 years ago on a mural in Red Hook, Brooklyn called A Dream Grows in Brooklyn, and, after reconnecting, she asked me to become the lead artist and help the students design and paint six murals at Murray Hill Academy titled Windows to the Future. I accepted without hesitation because knowing that I was on the other side of that spectrum – a kid who didn’t have an outlet for art – now I’m in the driver’s seat, bringing in these children who have no outlet. I’m very grateful that CITYarts is not only using themselves to help the children of the five boroughs but around the world as well.”
— Bernard Wiggins, former CITYarts youth community volunteer & current CITYarts Lead Artist at Murray Hill Academy High School
“I got to make my school look a little better!”
— Genesis, age 13
