CITYarts Programs & Initiatives
Since 1989, CITYarts’ programs have grown in scope and reach, bringing together youth with professional artists to transform communities and foster connection.

These programs cover five educational, civic, and social areas:
Young Minds Build Bridges
Young people from diverse backgrounds work together to forge bonds and a sense of global community. Pieces for Peace encourages youth to imagine and commit to a more peaceful world.
Community Identity
Youth and adults examine what their neighborhoods should look like as they revitalize community spaces around them.
Global HeART Warming
Youth are inspired to think about climate change, celebrate nature, and encourage change in their families and communities.
Kids for Justice
At-risk youth develop and express their thoughts on justice and social responsibility through art.
Windows of Opportunity
Artistically talented youth are guided in further cultivation of their creative abilities and connected with professional artists.
Site-specific projects are created under these programs, which represent the core of CITYarts’ mission to integrate art and education towards four main goals:
Channel youth energies away from trouble and into creative thinking, exploring their imagination into constructive paths.
Bridge cultural differences with diverse communities and foster cultural understanding internationally.
Transform neighborhoods into vital meeting spaces while changing lives in the process.
Produce permanent artworks that address important civic, educational, and social issues while beautifying the urban environment of New York City’s five boroughs and beyond.
