Our Voices 2023

Community Identity

In Summer 2023, we continued our collaboration with artists Hugo Bastidas and Madeline Weibel, local youth from Children’s Arts and Sciences Workshop, Children’s Aid Society, and NYC’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) along with the NYPD’s 30th Precinct to complete the 200 foot community mural that we started last summer at Alexander Hamilton Playground in West Harlem.

As a part of CITYarts' Community Identity program, the large-scale outdoor mural, entitled Our Voices, represents the unique identity, history, and culture of West Harlem as told through the eyes and experiences of the local community. Throughout the project, CITYarts worked hand-in-hand with NYPD officers from nearby precincts who are committed to community outreach. This gave the students and the officers a chance to get to know each other in a safe environment.
