Voyagers on the Move 2024
Community Identity
CITYarts collaborated with Voyages Preparatory High school teacher Yael Glick, artist Nia Blue, and Voyages students in partnership with HireCause to design and create a mural in 2024. We encouraged youth to use the creative process to bring a breath of fresh air to their surroundings.
As part of the Community Identity program, Voyagers On The Move encouraged youth to use the creative process to bring a breath of fresh air to their surroundings. At the same time, workshops provided youth with an opportunity to work together towards a common goal and take shared ownership of a public art project, teaching them essential life skills and foundational art skills. As a collaboration, youth enhanced their critical and creative thinking abilities, improved communication skills, and became more actively engaged in their community.
To help fund the mural project, students utilized their Hire Cause class to organize the first school dance in over a decade. Students also planned a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate completing the mural and used social media to publicize the event.
