Born in Denver, Colo., Haskins received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado, including a semester in Florence, Italy, studying art. Her postgraduate study has been highlighted with oil painting workshops. Some of her teachers include Dean Bowlby, Rich Hilker, Skip Whitcomb, Kim English and Mark Daily.
Creating an interesting piece is what challenges Susan Haskins as an artist. Painting en plein air with oil paint is what she enjoys. Compositional possibilities are endless, along with color; lighting, texture and atmosphere make working from life wonderful. Before she focused on oil painting, she also worked as a commercial artist and photo finish operator.
