At work for more than 40 years, Jan Staller’s photographs have been exhibited at MoMA, Whitney Museum of American Art, the New Museum, The Museum of the City of New York, The High Museum and The Art Institute of Chicago.
His work is in the collections the Metropolitan, SFMOMA, Art Institute of Chicago and more public and private institutions. He has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and the Hasselblad Corporation.
Two monographs of his work have been published: Frontier New York (Hudson Hills Press) and On Planet Earth (Aperture).
Staller has completed assignment photography for many magazines such as Time and Life Magazine, Fortune, Forbes Magazine, Wired, Discover, Conde Nast Traveler Magazine, The New York Times and more.
In addition to his photography and video projects, Staller has had a long standing involvement with architecture and industrial design. Over the years he has built and lived in two distinctly different Manhattan homes of his own design. With largely self taught machinist techniques, Staller has conceived and fabricated a range of objects including unique lighting, furniture and jewelry.
